The Doors were an American rock band that was founded and formed in 1965 in Los Angeles, California. The band members are Jim Morrison on lead vocals, Ray Manzarek on keyboards, Robby Krieger on lead guitars and John Densmore on drums. The band name originated from The Doors of Perception, a book written by Aldous Huxley. They found this phrase from the book quite true and appealing – 'If the doors of perception were cleansed everything would appear to man as it is, infinite”, interpreting it through music.

They got their record contract in 1966 from Elektra Records. Their first ten albums became instant top hits in the United States. Their records Strange Days (1967), Waiting for the Sun in 1968, The Soft Parade in 1969, Morrison Hotel in 1970, Absolutely Live (1970) and L.A. Woman in 1971 earned them 19 gold, 14 platinum, and 5 multi-platinum awards.

They were one of the most contentious bands in the 60s due to their wildly unreserved poetic lyrics that created quite a stir to the public.
